Unite the Union has obtained funding from the CITB Structured Fund for the period 1 March 2017 to 30 March 2020.
This funding is being used to organise and deliver onsite assessment for construction workers with significant industry experience who do not hold any formal qualifications or apprenticeship completion papers.
For existing Unite members the union will fully fund the cost of onsite assessment to support you to obtain a SVQ/ NVQ Level 2 qualification in your trade. By having your existing skills recognised you will be able to apply for a blue skilled worker CSCS card. This is the bare minimum for a tradesmen.
Over the last 9 months, Unite the Union has supported and fully funded onsite assessment for over 50 tradesmen working on projects including the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, the V&A Museum in Dundee, and the A9 Perth Bypass.
Occupations include; Bricklaying, Dry Lining Fixing, Formwork, Firework (application of fire retardant coatings), Interior Fit Out, Joinery, Joint Taping, Painting and Plastering.
This funding is your opportunity to protect your employment and earning capacity within the sector. Unite the Union are increasingly being contacted by tradesmen who have been 'kicked off' site at induction stage due to not holding the right level of CSCS card.
If you are a skilled tradesmen who has no formal qualifications/ held the white CRO CSCS card up to its expiry date or currently hold the green labourer card, Unite the Union urge you to contact Michael Conroy on 07894 414609 or Michael.Conroy@unitetheunion.org to find out if you are eligible for funding.
